Hi Friends, family and supporters!
First I want to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to hear my story! I am so excited to announce that I have 33 more credits to go until I graduate, that's 11 more classes until I walk across the stage! I attend University of Maryland University College where I take online classes and I am pursuing my degree in Human Resource Management (my passion).
I am reaching out to my friends and family as a support system because I just found out that this fall when I start my senior year in college, I am no longer eligible to receive Pell grants from the government. After filing for the FAFSA this year, they decided that I make over the “income limit” and will not award me with any more grants for the remainder of my schooling. This is devastating for me because I have been paying for my classes on my own since 2012. Without the Pell grant I am not sure I will be able to afford my classes any longer. My graduation date has been set for fall 2015, and I am also taking summer classes. I work full time for a home building company and between work and school I have maintained a 3.2 GPA.
Here is the breakdown of what I pay for school:
• The cost of each class is: $843
• I take 4 classes a semester, which cost me $3,372. That’s 8 classes a year which totals $6,372 per year.
• In order to graduate I have to complete 11 more classes. $843 x 11= $9,273.
• This cost does not include books- including books if I average $150 for each book for 11 more classes, that cost is $1,650. This means that my senior year of college I will need $10,923 to graduate.
I am asking you to help me cross the finish line. My advisor and friends mentioned “gofundme” as a resource for funding my education. I am so excited to be able to use this tool. If you can, please help all donations will bless me. I sincerely thank God for all of you and your support in my senior year in college. I ask that you keep me in your prayers as I pursue my dreams. I would like to close by leaving you all with some inspirational quotes that help me every day and gave me the courage to reach out to all of you. (Please share with friends and you can also donate anonymously)
