Orange Day for Kay
Donation protected
In February, we found out that one of our scholars has leukemia. Kay was in my second grade class at JDCS. Her classmates care a great deal about her. Many of them have been in the same class since kindergarten. They'd all be in 3rd grade together right now, but Kay's chemo thereapy has kept her from school and from her friends.
When we sat down with Kay's classmates for the first time to talk about the journey Kay is now be on for the next few years as she fights cancer, their first question was: How can we help??? They came up with Orange Day for Kay. On May 30, 2014 scholars raised nearly $5,000 between online fundraising and their special dress down day at school. This dress down day was special because scholars donated anywhere between 2 and 10 dollars and wore orange to show support for Kay. All money raised went directly to Kay's family to help with medical expenses.
The reason we created this donation page is because so many people, from outside of our school community, have been inspired by how much love this group of students has for each other. Many of you have asked how you can participate. Here's how...
PLEASE PARTICIPATE IN OUR HAT DAY FOR KAY on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2014.
As Kay has officially lost most of her hair, she has taken to wearing a variety of fashionable hats Join us and wear a hat with Kay. It's our little way of saying our hats are off to you, sweet girl! Your strength is admirable. We support you and love you and we are here with you all the way!
Our goal is to raise another $3000 between online donations and our Hat Day.
