The Akello Bomani Scholarship was started in 2013 by the seven members, who were initiated in the 2004 line of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.’s Epsilon Chapter at the University of Michigan. Upon graduation these men wanted to recognize extraordinary African-American men, at U of M, who exemplified the characteristics of someone who “brings forth the warrior” within themselves to reach their full potential academically and professionally while being socially conscious of today’s times.
Our goal is to provide scholarship awards to deserving African-American men matriculating at the University of Michigan. The award given will assist them in completing their educational and career goals by providing resources to offset expenses associated with tuition, books and housing. The scholarship program allows us to identify young leaders in the Ann Arbor community and motivates them to achieve academic and community service excellence.
To date, we've awarded two $500 scholarships. This year, we're awarding a $1,000 scholarship. Next year, with your support, we'd like to award $2,000. It's our hope that one day, we can award multiple scholarships upwards of $10,000.
All we ask, is for you to pass the word to anyone you may know at Michigan who might qualify for the scholarship.
Any financial support we receive would directly benefit a student.
