Aubrie's BVAR Field School Fund

Donation protected
Attending the Belize Valley Archaeological Reconnaissance Project (BVAR) would be very important to the development of my career as an archaeologist. As I am graduating in May it is going to be tough to find a job in my field without prior experience in archaeological field methods. BVAR is looking for participants for their upcoming field school doing archaeological excavations and cultural work in Belize this summer.

This would be the perfect opportunity to expand my knowledge in the discipline I love as well as give me the chance to interact with a different culture. I have not traveled much in my life, although it is something I long for. Not only will this trip help me advance in my career as a professional, but it will give me priceless memories and experiences that I will cherish forever.

I have the funding to pay for the program itself, therefore Ttis fund is dedicated to raising $900 for my flight to Belize and to cover my travel and living expenses while I'm there.

The pictures below are the results of previous BVAR excavations:

Below is a picture of the excavation of the Structure B at the Baking Pot site. This structure is located at the palace complex of the monumental center. It is also the site I will most likely be focusing on this summer to help clear large sections of the palace's structures and courtyards in order to refine the understanding of the chronological processes of abandonment by the royal court.

This is a picture of the spike-applique censer found at Baking Pot. It was most likely used to burn incense and was made to mimic young Ceiba and Sapote trees, which hold great significance in Maya cosmology, rituals, and worldview.

Below is a picture of the Pook's Hill surface site.

Below are images of the cave site operations BVAR has excavated in the past:
This is a picture of the preserved handprints at the Actun Uyazba Kab (Handprint Cave) cave site:

Actun Yaxteel Ahau is site for cave operations and it features water at its enterance and towering cliffs, upon which the Maya performed rituals.

This is an image of the vessels found at the Che Chem Ha ("Cave of the Poisonwood Water") cave site.
