Bikes Across Borders: ATX to Mex
Donation protected
Hi, friends. I'm riding my bike with Bikes Across Borders 600 miles, from Austin, Texas across the border to Matamoros and then inland to Monterrey, Mexico. At the end of my ride my bike will be donated to a local non-profit south-of-the-border.
The Bikes Across Borders mission is to build solidarity partnerships by promoting autonomous transportation & cultural arts. Bikes Across Borders has organized more than fifteen bike delivery caravans since 2001, sending over 700 bicycles to Mexico, Central America, and Cúba.
Besides working to support community groups with material aid we also work to organize international delegations, trips, and caravan shipments between grassroots organizations and people in order to foster solidarity across political borders.
I'm raising $2000: $1500 to pay for the bike and I'd like to make and extra donation of $400 to local community organizations in Mexico and 100 to the Bikes Across Borders organization.
King Kog bicycle shop is selling me the bike to close to their cost and doing all of the labor for free.
The ride is unsupported and I'll be paying to ship the bike from CA to TX, my transportation out, all of my food and expenses along the way, as well as my transportation back to the States.
Thanks for your support in this huge adventure!
