Fund for Peggy and Terry Bolin

Donation protected

On the afternoon of September 27th, my Aunt Peggy and Uncle Terry were traveling by motorcycle north on 111 in South Roxana when a southbound vehicle entered their lane. Uncle Terry tried to swerve to the right to prevent an accident, but a large drop-off left him too little room to avoid being hit.

On impact, both Peggy and Terry were thrown from the bike. Terry landed nearby and was found quickly by first responders. It wasn't until he asked about Peggy that they realized there was a second victim. In the accident, Peggy had been thrown from bike, into the vehicle's windshield, and into the deep ditch beside the road.

My aunt and uncle were airlifted to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and were both immediately prepped for surgery. What followed were some of the most stressful and frightening days that my family had endured in years.

Peggy suffered a compound left femur fracture, facial trauma, and extensive body wide soft tissue damage. Her right ankle had fractured so severely that it was barely attached and the injury was packed full of dirt and debris. Her first surgery took seven hours.  Two days later, a second surgery was done to further clean the injury of any debris and hopefully save her foot. She is still at risk for amputation and her foot will never regain full function.

Terry suffered a complete and open fracture of the left femur, a fractured right shoulder scapula, multiple broken ribs, a bruised sternum, and c6 fracture of the spine. He spent five hours in surgery the night of the accident.

Peggy and Terry are looking at a long recovery. The medical bills for their transport to and stay at Barnes is already $60,000, and that won't even include their stay at the rehabilitation hospital that they have now both been moved to. With no timeline for when they may be able to return to work, even their normal living expenses are going to be a challenge.

I'd like to thank all of you who have offered your love and support since the accident. It has been unceasing stress and worry for our family since that day, and your thoughts and prayers have been such a blessing. As our family waited anxiously for good news in those first few days, we worried not just about Peggy and Terry but also about each other. Long waits at the hospital, sleepless nights, long distance phone calls... The support that you all gave my family was a comfort to each and every one of us.

The funds we collect via this site will go directly to Peggy and Terry to cover living expenses and medical bills. A sincere thank you to anyone who donates even the smallest amount. If you can't donate, we'd appreciate you sharing our donation page just as much!
