15 years ago when I started Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble, I had no idea that it would become an organization that is a leader in performance work rooted in social justice and working with 5,000 kids a year! Over the years, you've seen it grow, you know I'm passion about the kids and CDE creates change through our performance work one voice, one story, one person at a time.
This year I am personally raising $3,000 for CDE that will go to fund two projects.
1. Bindis and Bruises weaves together the stories from survivors of domestic and dating violence, through dance and theatre, to uncover inner strength and hope with a unified voice. As a survivor of dating violence, this story needs to be told becasuse her story is my story, together we move beyond the hurt. Funding for this production will allow us to pay for the space, workshops with other survivors, and touring to college campuses. 1 out of 3 women will experience domestic abuse and 1 out of 4 will be raped, it's time we break the silence.
2. Arts Educational Programs the city and state budget crisis has caused schools and social service organizations to not be able to pay for much needed programming. We generally subsidize these programs through what they pay us and grants but becasue of the budget cuts, we are needing our supporters to help out. $50 will pay for an class 30 kids- $500 will pay for a 12 session residency in a classroom with for 30 kids- $1,500 will pay for THREE 12 session residency in a classroom with for 90 kids.
