TITLE OF PROJECT: THE ISOLATION PROJECT (CHARITY FUNDRAISING ART EXHIBITION)

Theme of Project
The proposal for this fundraising project is to raise funds for 2 very worthwhile charities – beyondblue and The Black Dog Institute.
The theme behind the project I am working on deals with the feeling of isolation / aloneness associated with depression and PTSD - with the idea that even though one can be surrounded by so many people, one can still feel that sense of isolation and aloneness.
The exhibition will include photographic works, as well as drawings and paintings.
Background to Project
This GoFundMe project is to again raise funds for 2 very important and very deserving charities - beyondblue and The Black Dog Institute.
I was diagnosed with depression and PTSD as a result of being the primary witness to my sister's murder in 1987.
In 1987, my mother, 3 younger sisters and I lived in Western Sydney - there was my older sister Deborah, who was 9 years old. Then there was myself, I was 7 years old at the time, plus 2 younger siblings, both also female.
On July 15, 1987, a 21 year old male who lived in our street, broke into our house via the window of the bedroom Deborah and I shared, and proceeded to rape and murder Deborah.
This male was eventually caught, and sentenced, with his non-parole period ending on July 21, 2015. He is still in jail, as his parole application in 2015 was denied. However, he is allowed to have this reviewed every 2 years, for an indefinite period of time.
Reasons for choosing to donate to beyondblue and The Black Dog Institute.
These 2 charities / not-for-profit organisations are, in my opinion, very important causes for carious reasons:
BeyondBlue (http://www.beyondblue.org.au/) is a not-for-profit organisation working to increase awareness and understanding of anxiety and depression in Australia and to reduce the associated stigma.
The Black Dog Institute (http://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au/) is a not-for-profit organisation and world leader in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder.
Art Exhibition in Sydney
To raise funds for these 2 very worthwhile charities, I will be producing a body of work, as mentioned, reflecting the feelings of isolation associated with depression - the feeling of being alone despite being surrounded by so many people.
Exhibition Proposal
My aim for this project is for the work produced during this trip to reflect upon the feelings of isolation associated with depression - the feeling of being alone despite being surrounded by so many people.
I will be visiting both densely and sparsely populated locations to study relationship between the landscape and the people, and the connectedness (or lack thereof) people feel to both the landscape around them, and to each other.
Research Gathering Journey
My journey will take me to both bustling cities and remote locations around Australia. This journey will take approximately 6-9 months, with an exhibition of work to be held in early 2018.
Upon returning from the Research Gathering Journey
Upon returning from the Research Gathering Journey, an exhibition of my work will be held in Sydney - proceeds of all works sold will also be donated to beyondblue and The Black Dog Institute.
I am currently in discussions with a number of Galleries in Sydney (Australia) to host the Fundraising Exhibition in 2018.
Exhibition / Opening Night
Tickets be sold to the Opening Night, part of the funds to cover the cost of the Opening Night, and associated costs of the exhibition, with profits from Tickets for the Opening Night donated to below-mentioned charities.
100% of proceeds from any sales of works during the period of the exhibition to also be donated to the below-mentioned charities.
Further Information
As mentioned above - regardless of how much is raised here, all funds raised here and 100% of proceeds from the Exhibition will be donated to 2 charities - divided between beyondblue and The Black Dog Institute.
ALL contributions, regardless of the size, are greatly appreciated!!
