Christian’s Courage: Help Fuel the Fight

6-year-old Christian Campero was diagnosed with T-Cell ALL Leukemia in August of 2012. Thanks to early diagnosis and excellent treatment response, his cancer is in remission.
But remission isn't what most of us think. It's not the end of treatment, or the end of the fight. In fact, Christian and his family still have a long road ahead, with at least another year and a half of chemotherapy to complete.
The coming together of community "“ in meals and visits, in offers to help in ways big and small "“ is often overwhelming at the start of a journey like this. As the months go on, the cadence of such support may be different; but the kind words, prayers and encouragement are the fuel for a family's fight.
As friends and family, we've seen how despite this different and hopeful phase of the journey, concerns and burdens continue to pile up: concerns families are reluctant to talk about: hesitant to seek support for: even when doing so might make a huge difference in their ability to continue the fight.
A 5-day hospital stay due to a common cold. Doctor visits to check on complications and side effects of chemotherapy and radiation. A second- and third-opinion when a simple dental cavity must be filled. Never ending prescription costs. Continued clinic visits and isolation days. All representing lost work days for Tricia and Cesar, even as the costs (emotional and financial) of the fight add up.
Even with insurance, co-pays, deductibles and intangibles like parking begin to accumulate. We imagined the impact over time. We imagined how we might help: and how in turn, we could give others the opportunity to help, too.
The Camperos would never ask, so we are happy to do it on their behalf. If you'd like to help contribute toward Christian's medical bills, a donation of any amount is appreciated.
