The Coats Monkeys

Karen Franklin began sewing sock monkeys for children who suffer from Coats' Disease, a rare condition that can cause partial or full retina detachment leading to reduced or loss of vision.  Kids who are diagnosed with Coats' Disease spend much of their time getting their eyes and vision checked - examinations that often include dilation, which can be scary for younger patients.  The Coats Monkey offers comfort to kids as they are examined and reminds them that they are not alone.

Each Coats Monkey has a heart over one eye, which symbolizes the eye affected by Coats' Disease.

The money raised will go towards the cost of monkey-making supplies (socks, buttons, ribbons, etc.) and the cost of shipping.  The Perfectly Imperfect Coats Monkeys are sent internationally to kids with Coats' Disease.
