DECLASSIFIED: En Avant

The "DECLASSIFIED" series of art installations are a production of the Veteran Coalition of Arts, at the School of Visual Arts.
SVA has a small community of veteran students who attend on scholarship under the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill. The Veteran Coalition of Arts is a collective of veteran-artists whose work reflects personal experiences as a way to shape their artistic practices.
As a community, VCA strives to provide a supportive environment in order to foster the most fluid transition from the uniformity of the military to a shared dialogue about the military influence, causes and effects of war, and the dichotomy of being a contemporary veteran and artist in a post 9/11 culture.
This exhibition series is an opportunity to showcase a common theme found in many returning veterans whose artwork reflects a desire for change from the rigidness of military life and the personal evolution that comes from art making.
The piece shown here is by VCA member Hector Rene, from a body of work titled "Hegemony or Survival," and is just one example from the eight artists in this years show.
This GoFundMe is set up for pre-sales of our show catalogue. The catalogue will be designed by VCA member Chris Miller, and feature a page about all eight of the showing artists. It will include statements by the show curators, Rebecca Storer and Kylene Kasch, and be printed in a limited edition of 100. In addition each one will be signed by all included artists and numbered.
