Dawn Mayberry's Fight Against Cancer!

I'm raising money for my mother, Dawn Mayberry, who was diagnosed with cancer- we now know it is stage 4 endometrial cancer- in 2011. Read on for some of the details as we found them out.

2/23/11 Four weeks ago she went to the doctor for a lump on her hip- it was a swollen lymph node. They did an ultrasound, then a biopsy, and it came back that it was cancer. The doctors removed the lymph node and were able to biopsy it more. We're still not sure where the cancer is coming from, it looks like it's endometrial cancer. She was in the ER over the weekend after having a CT scan the previous day, this time they did a head CT and it showed 2 lesions on her brain. 2/24 is the appointment with the oncologist, and we'll find out more about what course of treatment they are going to take.

Edit 2/25/11: The primary site of the cancer is her uterus, and they are starting the brain radiation on Monday which she'll receive daily for two and a half weeks. They'll also begin the radiation to her uterus at some point as well. Keep the positive energy and good thoughts coming- my mom is STRONG and she wants to FIGHT this!

Edit 4/7/11: I've been posting regular updates with info, but did want to put it up here and easy to read. Mom's had 2 rounds of chemo so far, they're every 3 weeks, and cost around $15,000 each time unless we can find some grants to cover it. It's a huge amount and an incredibly long day of chemo each time- 2 chemo drugs and about 8 hours- and any encouragement or donations of any size would be very helpful.


The money collected will go towards paying medical bills. She now (2012) has a basic health insurance plan that covers SOME of the medical costs but there is still a lot that is pre-existing and MUCH that was not covered last year. She has spent all her life taking care of other people, and now she needs help! (If you would like your donation to go towards household expenses as well, please just let me know in a comment.)
