Diane's Walk Through Cancer

Donation protected
My little sister, Diane Cabrera, is fighting a battle that no one should have to fight - the fight against cancer. Diane was diagnosed with a very rare bone cancer, osteosarcoma, that has metastasized from her right femur to both her lungs.
Diane was diagnosed several days before her 16th birthday. Her diagnosis has left her bedridden and has prevented her from attending school and enjoying her favorite activities; such as participating in ASB and volleyball. Diane has always been a spirited and caring girl. Her freshman year of high school was spent recognizing and appreciating individual students. Diane’s passion is to help others. But now, she is in need of your help.

Since November 2015, Diane complained of knee pain, but we often disregarded it as soreness from her active lifestyle. By late January of 2016, Diane’s right knee had swollen to the size of a small watermelon. After an MRI and a visitwith her orthopedic surgeon, he recommended Diane to see an orthopedic oncologist. Dr. Allison told Diane and our family, that there were three possibilities of what the 14 x 20cm mass in her right femur could be; a cyst, lymphoma, or osteosarcoma. We were faced with two options to keep Diane alive, a leg amputation or a risky limb salvage surgery.

The outcome of Diane’s biopsy came several days before her 16th birthday. The mass in her leg was the worst of the three options, an aggressive bone cancer, also known as osteosarcoma. A bone scan and a chest scan showed that Diane’s cancer had moved to both her lungs… even worse news! Immediately we were told that my healthy little sister was now fighting stage 4 osteosarcoma.

Our dad is a cross country truck driver, leaving our family for several days a week. He was not able to be here for a majority of Diane's treatment, multiple chemotherapy sessions and a lifesaving limb salvage surgery. To ease the burden of my parents financially, I have started this Go Fund Me account and with your support, you can help keep our family united during this ongoing battle with cancer.

From the bottom of our hearts we ask that you share this link with friends and family and if possible donate (any amount will help).

We thank you for all of your support and may God bless you!!
