Reunite Faida's Family

Donation protected
Let's help reunite Faida with her two 16-year-old daughters who were thought to have been killed in war-torn Congo.

Our family just signed up to "sub for Santa" for a Congolese refugee family in San Diego. As we learned about Faida & her family from the nonprofit organization assisting her resettlement, we have been blown away by her strength and sweet outlook on life despite the many hardships she has been through.

The Backstory:
Faida is a widow who came to America last year with three of her daughters, ages 16, 13, & 12 as refugees from the violence in the Congo.  Faida had an accident while in the refugee camp in Africa which left her disabled.  Shortly after arriving in San Diego, Faida was run over by a car and now has to use a walker to get around.  On top of that, she has recently been hospitalized by cancer.

Sixteen years ago in Congo Faida had triplet girls.  In the chaos of fleeing the violence one year later, Faida became separated from two of her babies.  She exhausted all efforts to find her two missing girls. Amazingly, after years of believing that her two girls had been killed, she recently learned that they are still alive!  Both girls fell victim to child sex trafficking, and now both of the 16-year-old girls are the mothers to two babies of their own.  These sisters and their babies are in a refugee camp in Africa, and Faida is working with the Jewish Federation of San Diego County  to start the process of bringing her daughters and her grandchildren to live with her here.  Pictures of them (in obviously newly provided clothes) in the camp are shown above.

The Costs:  They have paid $500 in fees to begin the resettlement process to reunite the family, and to cover the cost of a photographer in Africa to take pictures of the girls and their babies & document their identification.  The $500 fee was the more affordable option.  There is another option that would cover legal aid & expedite the process with the US government.  This second option would cost $4,000 to $6,000 per family member.  Since there are two girls and four babies, that amount of money is an impossible sum for this humble family.

How You Can Help:  That’s where this GoFundMe campaign comes in.  We would love to see this sweet mother, who has survived so much, reunited with her girls and be able to kiss her grandbabies.  We want these girls and their babies to be safe for the first time in their young lives and to have the family support that has been stolen from them all these years.  And we feel a sense of urgency for Faida to be reunited with her family before her health may further diminish.  Let’s all pitch in to help reunite them!  Any contribution would be deeply appreciated.
