50 5ks in 1 year
Donation protected
I had a crazy idea one day to run 50 5Ks in one year, so on September 28, I just signed up for my first race, not having any training at all. Yep, 50 5Ks "” that's roughly about 1 race a week, each with its own t-shirt, bib and theme. As of January 25, 2014, I have done 20 5Ks in 4 months.
At the beginning, I couldn't really "run" run: in fact, I finished my first 5K in 52 minutes. But now, I can slow jog like a boss and I'm learning how to run without my heart exploding in my chest. I can feel my body adjusting to the new normal, my knees are in good shape, and with the right bra (or 2), I can do anything. I'm about 40 lbs. overweight and I'd like to be able to feel better and be able to run a 5K in less than 30 minutes. I hope this goal will help me make a habit out of exercising and make exercise fun for my kids, along with other reasons that I am still discovering. I kinda think of this as an Eat, Pray, Love kind of journey but with fewer elephants.
All goals seem crazy at the beginning "” especially goals that required such 6 a.m. dedication and moola to accomplish them. But I'm here on GoFundMe for the support. I am truly grateful to my friends and family for support they have showed me so far. If you have a race you want me to run, just send me a message.
Any money I received over my goal is going straight to Cook Children's "” seriously, there are children out there with cancer and those kids and moms are just better people than I hope to ever have to be. I need good karma in that department.
