Our Firefighters Need Our Help!

A few months ago my children and I visited our local fire department #7 on Derrill Dr. in Decatur to bring them dinner as a thank you for all they do for us, to find out the station they have to live in is horrible! I contacted the news for some help and they ended up doing a new report about the conditions they live in. I also met with the fire chief and let him know that we are willing to do fundraisers to raise money as well as my husband who has construction background was will to do the labor. And that some big name retailers are willing to donate materials with a letter from the department for tax purposes (5013c which I don't have). The fire chief informed us that the station was next in line to be remodeled.

After a recent visit to the station we were informed that the remodel wasn't going to happen and that they are stuck with these horrible conditions, the bathrooms were so disgusting I didn't want to go in, there is what appears to be mold in the bedrooms and a hole in the roof. This station is the busiest station in Dekalb county and these firefighters put their lives on the line for us everyday, leave their families and nice homes to come to this beyond horrible station. When I asked them why they don't ask for transfers they all had one answer "we are a family here, and we stick together " pretty amazing! Which is why I'm reaching out to our neighborhood and community and all of you for help! I am able to do fundraisers to raise money for the materials and my husband and his guys are willing to do the labor, but we definitely need more help and donations to get these guys a nice place to be while they are away from their homes and families to protect and serve us! I really believe that as a community we can help these firefighters out!
