SERVICE DOG FOR GREGORY
Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends,
Many of you know that in December 2013, our son Gregory was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This February, we also added an ADHD diagnosis to our challenges. For more than a year now we have been working hard to provide him with every opportunity to develop skills to help him with the many challenges that will effect his quality of life. Gregory is a brilliant little boy and we are so proud of his progress. As any parent would, we are always looking for more ways to set him up for success.
With all of Gregory’s needs taking priority in our lives, it requires us to be a one income household. We would not be able to provide him with everything we feel he needs otherwise. The purpose of this letter is to ask for your help to provide him with an Autism Service Dog. There is a long list of wonderful results for children on the autism spectrum and with adhd when they are joined by a skilled service dog. However, this cost of one of these highly trained service animals is out of our range. I have included a link at the bottom of the page to a presentation on the benefits for children like Gregory.
I have researched several organizations that provide dogs specifically for Autism. I have found one organization that charges a fair price for a great dog. They would provide Gregory with a fully trained “goldendoodle” service dog for $11,000. This is about half of most other places (some it’s less than half). We would also have a few other expenses to help us be fully prepared. So we would like to raise a total of $13,000. This additional amount will allow us to cover the first year of routine medical expenses and get the grooming supplies we would need. With the grooming supplies here at home, it will reduce the amount we will need to take the dog to a groomer.
You can find pictures of the dogs on Facebook by searching for Awesome Service Dogs. We would have a dog similar to the cream colored ones you will find in their pictures. For those that are not familiar with the term, “goldendoodle” means a Golden Retriever and Poodle cross bred dog. These dogs have amazing temperments and I am very excited to have found this option.
Thank you for taking the time to consider our request. Please understand we do not take this request lightly. We appreciate any amount you may be able to donate to Gregory.
Thank you for taking the time to consider our request. Please understand we do not take this request lightly. We appreciate any amount you may be able to donate to Gregory. Donations can be made in a couple of different ways. If you wish to send money directly to us (by check, money order, etc) we have a special account just for this purpose. You may donate online at gofund.me/GREGORYSDOG. With online donations, we will lose 8% of what you give for service fees. If you wish to purchase a specific item(s) please contact me directly and I we will work out an online purchase for what we need.
In order for us to start the contract, we need a $3,000 deposit right away. We then have the balance due upon receipt of the dog. This is a six month process. We hope to get the dog in August. This means we need all funds available by the first week of August.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions. We are happy to be 100% transparent with the use of these funds.
Thank you,
Greg, Natalie and Gregory
