Dear friends, community, families and extended community,

Re:
Assistance required to build an absolutely amazing music program for the Gisborne Montessori School

Why the inclusive instruments are so fabulous!!

-These instruments allow young children, with no musical skills, to pick up the instrument and play beautiful things and be part of a group music experience within minutes!!!
Jon Madin visited us early in 2018, and it was very powerful for everyone involved!!

-Ear protection for students for drumming and for sensitive ears
(including students with Autism SD)
Every week we have students who are too overwhelmed even with the sound level of singing voices together. These ear muffs will make a huge difference to our program.

About the inclusive instruments- (Definitions are taken from Jon Madin’s Marimba Music site)

-Marimba
The marimba is a percussion instrument consisting of a set of wooden bars struck with mallets called knobs to produce musical tones. Resonators or pipes suspended underneath the bars amplify their sound.
Materials for each marimba ~ $275 Labour time ~ 2-3 days (adult) plus 3-4 classes with students

-Echo Cellos
The echo-cello is a one-string, keyed, coil-spring and box resonated bowed cello. It is freestanding but tilts back for playing
The coil spring contacts the bowed wire, transmitting vibrations to a pipe resonator inside the body of the instrument. This arrangement adds ‘reverb’ to the tone of the echocello, eliminating the ‘scraping’ sound of beginner violin playing.
Almost immediately you can obtain a beautiful rounded sound from the instrument -- especially if the music you attempt is absolutely simple -- e.g. rhythmic repetitions on one note, tremolo passages or simple tunes like Twinkle, twinkle. Having keys means that the notes are perfectly in tune.

-Musical Stomp boxes (12)
You step or jump on these boxes and they ding musical notes. Instructions for making them can be found in 'Make Your Own Wacky Instruments' by Jon Madin. Stomp boxes have percussion instruments either in or connected to them.

-Marching Band Straps
14 adjustable straps for marching band drums (such as what you would use on a carry bag): cheap at an op-shop - more complex shoulder strap set up for bigger drums.

-Musical Bicycle
