GROW Ed. Greenhouse Mural

Donation protected
If you made a personal donation to my Carney Academy Mural Project Fundraiser, I'm happy to report your donation has done its job!
GROW Education  and Marion Institute  will be holding an opening party for the revitalized greenhouse, on December 9 from 4-6pm. All are welcome. Especially you!
The students at Carney Academy are already planting the vining plants which will one day complete the live element to this 25' mural. It looks amazing, and is a transcendent presence in an educational environment: fostering knowledge of science, growth, nature, and...art!
Thank you for entrusting me with your hard earned money to create "The Golden Rule" for the teachers, parents, & children of Sgt. W.H. Carney Academy Public Elementary School.
The effects of this project will be felt for years to come!

*Tracy Silva Barbosa is a New Bedford artist whose paintings and glass sculptures are collected world wide. She has fallen in love with the GROW Education's Carney Academy Greenhouse Project and aims to echo the spirit of growth like only she can-  by creating a seminal, permanent illuminated bas relief mural within the Carney greenhouse structure. This is to be a benchmark work of public art, and the first of a greater  public art plan Tracy is planning. This historic gift for all the people of Carney Academy, and the City of New Bedford will reverberate far wider than just these school walls, and with your help, the final outcome will be a series of transcendent, revitalized spaces wherein growth is happening in many forms.

The Artist's Vision:
"This artwork is an homage to the earth elements. Using gold, silver, aluminum, brass, copper, and silver metal leafs and powders, I will transform this wall into a sea of color variation using colorful metal patina reactions. Students will be encouraged to study the elemental nature of these metals and materials and their chemical reactions as I work.
Depicted in the mural will be an abstract urban landscape along a low horizon line. A silhouetted chain linked fence near the bottom left is delicately draped in morning glories, with familiar New Bedford architectural peaks in the distance. Above this, a penumbra of overhanging flora including iconographic local plants such as grapes and roses. All of the aforementioned images will be rendered in variations of gold, brass, copper, silver leaf. Most of this wall will be reflecting gold tone and bathe the students in a warm glow. A sense of growth is what this greenhouse fosters.
This mural will be a valuable teaching element. It will speak of the vital importance of curiosity, diligence, knowledge and the glowing grace it bestows upon us as a society.

"Grow Education (GROW)" is a program run out of the Marion Institute, seeks to create gardens in all 27 of New Bedford Public Schools by 2018. GROW works with teachers and families to establish six gardens a year, this year Carney Academy is one of them! The fascinating part about Carney is the large greenhouse built into an arts and science wing on the second floor of the school structure! The greenhouse has not been used by the students of school community for some time, and certainly never for vegetable production to feed the cafeteria! The families and teachers at Carney desperately want to revive their greenhouse. The community has come up with a list of veggies and fruits to grow and students are eager to get their hands dirty! Seedlings will be started in just a week!

To make this mural project possible and to complete our full Carney Greenhouse revival, we need your support. The funds raised will go directly to Tracy to purchase needed materials, supplies, insurance and labor costs for the project.
Please support this magical transformation of a dust filled, unused greenhouse into a fully functioning, inspirational place of growth and solace for students, their families, and the city of New Bedford to share with world.
