Hocking College Student Art Gallery

Late Saturday night, April 11, 2015, the Hocking College Art Gallery was destroyed by a fire . The fire gutted 30 Public Square, the building owned by Stuart's Opera House, where the gallery was housed.

Hocking College's permanent art collection, lighting and display pedestals were destroyed, as well as art work by faculty and students.

Fortunately, art for the senior show had not been moved into the gallery space before the fire. The seniors, faculty members and other students are working now to build new pedestals and displays in order to get everything set up in the new space in time for the opening.

The show, an important event for graduating students, has been moved to temporary gallery space following the recent fire on the Nelsonville Square.

Mark Hackworth of the Art, Design and Marketing program said, "An event like this causes people to come together. Our students, who are a tight knit group to begin with, have bonded even more. They are determined to make this the best show that we have had." He continued, "We invite everyone to join us at 37 Public Square to show support for these resilient students and to enjoy the exhibition."

A lot of people have asked how they can help, what they can do to support these students and this program, so we've established this GoFundMe campaign.

This fund is being used to help build and purchase new displays, lighting and other equipment for the program, and to help establish permanent gallery space in a new location in the future. We knew we would need to move the art gallery, since Stuart's Opera House is going to renovate and use the space. The fire sped up the  move.

We're still working with our insurance company to figure out what is covered, but we have a $10,000 deductible, so your donation will help a lot!

Please come to the show - Friday, April 24, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at 37 Public Square, (on the Historic Square) in Nelsonville.

A HUGE Thank You to all the first responders to the fire, and a special shout out to those of you who are also Hocking College Alum, faculty, staff and/or students.

Want to help? Please donate to offset the costs we're experiencing to re-locate the art gallery and our art collection. And, like Hocking College Art Gallery / Programs on Facebook.
