We are coming to you with very heavy hearts.
Jeff was admitted to St. Vincent Healthcare on June 9th by way of ambulance with symptoms of a stroke. This was so unexpected and we were not prepared for the journey this took us on and Jeff certainly wasn't either.
The first few days he had trouble remembering things and repeated things and asked questions over and over again. His entire right side of his body was effected due to the stroke.
We were getting encouraged daily hearing improvement in his speech and a good portion of his memory was returning.
He was moved to the 4th floor New Hope Rehabilitation on June 16th, we were all so happy and feeling so much Hope.
His first day of physical therapy went well but he was very tired. He didn't have therapy on Sunday and had a great day of rest and visitors.
Monday the 18th he had 2 of the 3 sessions and was taken back to his room for lunch and rest at 11:30am. The nursing staff went in to check on him at 11:45am and found him unresponsive. They had to bring in the R.A.T. Team to recesitate him and he was taken back to the 6th floor.
The stroke turned out to be the worse the Dr.'s had ever seen. He was unable to communicate or do anything for himself and we were told it was only a matter of time but that we were going to lose him.
I still cannot believe I am having to sit down and write this out and ask for help to make sure Jeffys end of life is an amazing celebration of life.
Jeff passed away early Friday morning very peacefully. Mom, Pop, myself, 2 brothers Bobby, Mike and countless nieces and nephews were there 24 hours a day from Monday until he went with Jesus on Friday.
We were able to pour our love into him and have some amazing "story times" he was not able to participate but we feel assured he could hear us and was loving it. He had multiple visitors that came to shower him with love and prayers and his girlfriend enjoyed reading to him.
God gave us the time needed and gave Jeff the fight to stay with us, so that he could feel the true honest love from all of us and so many who loved him. He loved his job and his boss was there daily encouraging him to get back to work. We tried to keep everyone informed through facebook and the response was amazing and truly heartfelt.
We are planning on spreading his ashes at Ohio State Stadium (Shoe) and Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. As many know, Jeff is one of Ohio State and Steelers biggest fans. When we left him a few hours after he passed we made sure ESPN was on the TV and the speaker was next to him to listen to the rerun of the NBA draft.
Jeff was/is loved by so many. His personality, amazing quick wit, tremendous amount of love for family, friends, strangers and sports was infectious and we will miss him with everything that we are, but he left us with love in his heart for his girlfriend something he wanted all of his life.
We appreciate any donations to make this possible as it has hit our family really hard. If not monetary please keep us in your prayers as we travel a road we never imagined would be traveled.
God Bless and make sure to spread kindness and love everywhere, we have learned this and will be living by it.
