Goals: #1 To raise enough money to have John treated at Cancer Institute Centers of America in Atlanta, GA. (They will not accept his Medicare health insurance). #2 To help John pay for his prescriptions, because his health insurance does not cover prescriptions, at all. (Some cancer medications can cost up to $100,000 a year just for one prescription). #3 To keep a continuous supply of cancer fighting supplements and an ample stock of nutritious/organic food. #4 To help John cover back and forth transportation and travel expenses to all of his treatments, church, support groups, and doctor appointments. #5 John's bills/debts. I have known him and his family personally for over 15 years. Certain members of my family have known him and his family for over 40 years. John is now up for the fight of his life. John and his family are aware that modern medicine has made little advance in it's war on cancer. Because of this, they have chosen to include complimentary and alternative medicine in their fight against cancer. John is seeking to have a naturopathic oncologist as part of his cancer treatment. Unfortunately, his health insurance doesn't cover that. January 30th, 2015 he was officially diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma Metastasis. Two weeks prior to that he was helping a neighbor that had a dishwasher needing fixed. As he was under the kitchen cabinet he moved his body in a way that must of jolted the tumor growth that was the size of a softball growing out of his right kidney into his interior vena cava vein. It was then that he started bleeding, which showed up in his urine with continuous blood clots. After that was when he went to the hospital. He then experienced a quick and traumatic time frame of being told he could die any minute following four surgeries which included an IVC filter placement, complete nephrectomy, tumor removal from his largest vein in his body, and clot removal knowing that the chances of him surviving each one were grim. It was even more critical because of the pulmonary embolisms in his two lungs from the kidney with the tumor, which was removed. John is extremely thankful for all of the prayers for he knows that is why he is blessed to be alive today. ***He was released from the hospital on January 28th, 2015 to finish recovering at home from the surgeries while having over fifty staples, and over sixty stitches. January 30th, 2015 he found out that in addition, the cancer had also spread from his right kidney to his lymph nodes. His doctor said he has stage 3 and a half cancer (in between stage 3 and stage 4). His cancer is currently localized, but John is in need of high quality aggressive treatment so that his cancer doesn't further spread, and to also assist in treating the grade four cancer cells that currently exist. John has chosen Cancer Treatment Centers of America because they treat the body as a whole, not just the cancer itself, which includes but not limited to naturopathic care, focus on nutrition, traditional medicine, and holistic medicine. For John's type of cancer, radiation and chemotherapy is not recommended because it does not respond well. Cancer Treatment Centers of America said they could not treat John, because there is a limited amount of slots available every year for Medicare patients and that the slots were all filled up. I'm asking for you to be part of this much needed cause and join in John's effort so that he has an excellent choice in how he is treated to help him conquer this mental and physical cancer war. ***John is a good family man, he has worked hard all of his life with his bare hands in carpentry, welding, and mechanics. Not a wealthy man by any means, but rich in heart, as he has never missed an opportunity to help another. This has included family, friends, neighbors, and strangers. If you were broken down on the road, he wouldn't be one to pass by. He would stop and fix your car for free. He would help in any way that he could. This is John Atkinson. He wants to fight this and continue to be there for his children and others. John's children lost their mother to cancer in 2006. John's own mother is 91 years old, and no mother should have to bury her son, especially to a relentless cancer that prematurely ends life.
