My name is Jordan Clay, and I am nineteen years old. When I was six years old, I told my mom that I wanted to be an actress. I have maintained a love for that dream despite the bumps along the road.
When I was 17, I didn't get into the only school that I applied for due to lack of insight on my part. It was that small slip up that showed me that I wasn’t mentally prepared for college at the time. So I took some time off to learn more about myself as well as the world around me. In that time I worked for Americorps, volunteering in a failing middle school,as well as working at two summer camps and being a leader in an outdoor education program in Colorado.
In that time, I learned to be thankful for the things I did have, like a loving supportive mother, a passionate drive to make something of myself, and a heart for giving back. Fast forward to two years out of high school and here I am. I have been accepted into North Carolina A&T State University,which is one of the only historically black universities to house an accredited,award winning theater program.
Due to being two years out of high school and not yet enrolled as a full time freshman, it is very difficult for me to find scholarship aid, leaving me and my mother to handle the majority of the costs for freshman year. My plan is to work incredibly hard my freshman year,and earn scholarship aid with my intelligence, my drive, and my passion. It won’t be easy.It will take hard work, persistence, and a whole lot of prayer.
