"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." - Martin Luther King
The purpose of this campaign is to humbly request your contribution to the 333 Kevin Anderson Legal Fund for Justice. Although I cannot go into specific details, I believe I have been defrauded.
This apparent abuse of trust has not only had a devastating impact on my financial life but on my emotional and professional life as well. It has tarnished my reputation and standing in the entertainment industry and aborted my career. It has affected my relationships with friends and associates including the Steppenwolf Theatre Company where I have been forced to drop out of 3 plays now (one scheduled for Broadway) to deal with this matter.
Fraud is an insidious crime. It spreads like cancer and can invade nearly every corner of a person's life. Perhaps its most corrosive effect is that it can destroy a person's ability to trust again and move on with their life productively. Isolation is a frequent result. It can leave you feeling overwhelmed, vulnerable, helpless, angry, and alone. I have basically stopped contact with almost everyone in my life except for my mother, sister, and girlfriend. Furthermore, I believe my privacy has been compromised and my basic civil rights have been violated.
This request here is perhaps my worst nightmare. Anyone who knows me even a little bit knows what a private, proud, and independent person I am. Those who know me can imagine how difficult and uncomfortable this must be for me, basically begging. But I came to the conclusion that it is more uncomfortable for me to walk away and not hold the responsible parties accountable.
Your contributions would be used to hire a trial/litigation attorney and forensic accountant with the intent to prosecute this person or persons. Once I have resolution, I look forward to continuing on with my acting career.
My goal is to raise $333,000.
If you desire to contribute to this personal mission and campaign, I promise and guarantee that win or lose your contribution will be paid back in its entirety after the conclusion of the litigation.
To substantiate the validity of my claim, a book keeper who went through all of my records stated over $1,000,000 was unaccounted for. A former U.S. Attorney stated after a brief analysis of my summarized records that it appeared that at least $1.5 million was not accounted for. A prominent fraud attorney whom I worked with briefly stated this was a $10,000,000 case. An IRS Enrolled Agent, after analyzing all of my tax returns and records completed a report indicating a conservative estimate of $1,157,000 was missing and unaccounted for. I believe there is a high likelihood of obtaining a just and rightful judgment.
I dreamed of becoming an actor since I was 8 years old. When I was a kid I loved the Dean Martin Show and the Gold Diggers. After having to go to bed at night, I can remember lying on the floor and listening through the floorboards so I could hear it on the TV while my parents watched in the basement. I dreamed of becoming a triple threat like Frank and Dean and Sammy Davis. I loved Rich Little, Frank Gorshin, and Flip Wilson. When I was in Grade School a friend and I somehow talked the front office of the school into letting us put on an assembly which was basically a 2 hour improv of me imitating Geraldine. It was entitled "Geraldine Goes to the Ball."
I was the first president of the Viking Junior High Drama Club. In high school, our little hayseed speech team became one of the best in the state of Illinois. I started making money as an actor at the age of 16 at a theme park. On weekends, I played drums in a wedding band called "The Reflections" with my former 4th grade music teacher.
From there I got in to the Goodman School of Drama at De Paul University. My senior year, I was one of 2 students to receive the school's top acting scholarship called the Sara Siddons Award traditionally only given to a female. (I guess that Geraldine impression paid off.)
A few years later I was invited into the prestigious and hallowed Steppenwolf Theater Company. I was a stray cat and had found my home.
I went on to star opposite some of the biggest names in the business both onstage and onscreen including names like Finney, Redgrave, Nicholson, and Pacino.
I have devoted my life to acting.
Some people have asked me why I don't just get up, dust myself off, lick my wounds, strap on the helmet, and get back in the game.
Two words: "Mom" and "Dad".
My parents taught me the difference between right and wrong. They taught me the value of working hard and playing hard. They taught me to be wary of favors. They taught me to stick up for myself and tell the truth.
My dad Joe never finished high school. He fought in WW II in the Battle of the Bulge. He was commander of our local American Legion. He started off as a welder and worked his way up to running the office at Waukegan Steel Sales in Waukegan, IL. I doubt if he ever made more than $30,000 a year. I never remember him missing a day of work. After he died of lung cancer in 1983, I eventually named a corporation Joe Coyote, Inc. after him and as an homage to Steppenwolf.
My mother Marilyn raised a family of 5 and me being the last, once I was safely in school, she decided she wanted to go to school too at around the age of 40. She studied and became a court reporter at the Waukegan, IL courthouse. She went on to become the beloved secretary for various presidents of American Hospital Supply Company in Evanston, IL. Her grandfather and my Irish ancestors literally ate grass to survive before coming over here to the United States. My great grandfather never wanted to go back to Ireland. He apparently said "If I travel anywhere I will travel in the United States because I am an American now."
This is where I come from. This is who I am.
That is why I won't walk away. I owe it to them, Joe and Marilyn Anderson. I owe it to them to stand up, speak truth to power, and be heard.
My mom and dad worked hard their entire lives to help me realize a dream. I owe it to them to stand my ground and fight the good fight.
Thank you for your time.
I appreciate your interest,
Kevin Anderson
