Help Restore the Lexington House Façade

Donation protected

Lexington House for decades has served as a creative home and residence to artists of every discipline, among them: actors, writers, musicians, visual artists, dancers, filmographers and playwrights.

The iconic three-story building, with its two story veranda, is a rare surviving example of mid-size Catskill mountain resort architecture. Lexington House was completed in 1883 as a mountain retreat, and listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.

Over the years, Lexington House served as the home of Lexington Center for the Performing Arts, a summer camp, Lexington Conservatory Theater, the community arts organization Arts Awareness, and the summer home of Ensemble Studio Theater.

Over the past 25 years, Lexington House has fallen into disuse and and today is in dire need of attention. Although the foundation is in excellent condition, roof leaks and problems around the veranda threaten to damage the building if action is not taken promptly.

Lexington Arts + Science (LA+S), which acquired the building in late 2019, is now working to reactivate this elegant historical building for use as a community gathering space and artist’s studios.  The mission of LA+S is to foster creativity, conservation and exploration of nature through the Arts + Science.

The Lexington House is a well-known landmark. Its façade and signature veranda are strongly associated with the Town of Lexington, a hamlet that has successfully retained its quiet, small town character even as the mountaintop has visibly developed around it.   The artistic community Lexington House has nurtured over the past 140 years is a cultural treasure. For these reasons we must preserve the Lexington House for future generations and return it into the service of the community which will continue to build upon the unique cultural heritage it bears today.

All contributions collected in this campaign will be used for exterior renovations, prioritizing the veranda and façade   Funds raised in this campaign may be used to leverage additional local, state and federal grants, credits and other funding sources to advance the restoration of the Lexington House.

We are currently seeking a Board of Directors and beginning the process of obtaining non-profit status.  We thank you in advance for your support and will be holding a series of events to raise money for this and other initiatives.

We look forward to welcoming you at Lexington House.
