Mighty the Llama's Memorial Fund
Donation protected
Many of you have heard or read the recent news about the murder of Mighty, the llama. Mighty was just that - a mighty llama, a pet, a friend, a guard. Yes, Mighty was a guard llama, and she guarded her herd literally with her life.
On Wednesday, January 28, three young men entered her pasture and murdered Mighty in a most horrible manner. If you want the details, you can read the story of her gruesome death here -
http://tinyurl.com/Mighty-murder . Suffice it to say that Mighty suffered more than we can imagine, and died in defense of her herd.
We are extremely grateful for and honored by the offers of donations to our farm and family following Mighty's death. We truly appreciate the help in offsetting the expense of the armed guard we have been forced to hire temporarily at the farm and the cost of replacing our guard llama. What we have struggled to find, however, is a way to bring some small bit of good from this tragedy.
We believe we have found that opportunity, that good, in Southeast Llama Rescue (SELR), a non-profit organization that acts in situations where the owners are not able to keep or maintain their llamas or where animals have been seized by authorities. SELR takes them in and ultimately finds new homes for them. Funded entirely by private donations and adoption fees, SELR assists new llama owners by providing basic care information and connecting them with local "mentors" who are able to provide assistance on a more personal level. You can learn more about SELR here: www.southeastllamarescue.org .
We ask most humbly that you consider directing any donations that you are led to offer to this very worthwhile organization whose entire membership is volunteer based, so all donations go straight to the bottom line – the welfare of the animals.
We hope you'll help us save these wonderful llamas that so deserve our respect and care. Please click and donate in memory and in honor of our beautiful, mighty Mighty.
