Timeless Drawing

Donation protected
For the past 27 years, the mission of Open Figure Drawing of Syracuse, New York has been to offer an inexpensive drawing experience for our community on a drop-in basis. We give people of all levels and abilities the opportunity to draw from a live model in a supportive and encouraging environment.

We are a 501c3 charitable organization but we have never had a fundraising campaign until now. We are hoping to raise $1000.

Your contribution will enable Open Figure Drawing to purchase poseable mannequins and plaster casts. These items will help us expand our offerings to include a larger variety of open studio session, and add classes to our schedule.

Poseable Mannequins. Models are only human and need to take breaks to relax or stretch from time to time. Unfortunately, no amount of fussing will ever get a gown, cape, or toga to drape the same way twice. The purchase of a poseable mannequin will eliminate that problem and allow for multi-hour, or even multi-session study of the draped figure.

Plaster Casts. An academic mainstay, plaster casts aid with instruction, allowing for touch & manipulation without intrusion into a model's personal space. Drawing from plaster casts allows for close observation and study of specific form, volume, and tone arrangements with a deliberate approach. A well-stocked inventory of plaster casts is the backbone of all atelier-style studios.

Open Figure Drawing meets every Wednesday night for three hours. Entrance fee is $10 per person. The first two hours of the night are devoted to short poses and the remaining hour is for a long pose. Easels are available for use and participants bring their own paper and charcoal or medium of their choice. Music is played and snacks are provided. We also offer costumed model drawing once a month and on-location drawing sessions at local parks and museums. Throughout the year we mount group shows of our members’ drawings and paintings.

Open Figure Drawing sessions take place in the Westcott neighborhood of Syracuse, New York, just a stone’s throw from Syracuse University. We invite everyone, regardless of their abilities, to join our sessions. We feel our new undertaking of offering additional sessions and classes will be more inviting to more people and we hope YOU will join us!
