P.E.T. Scanner for Sudbury
Donation protected
The Sam Bruno P.E.T. Steering Committee together with the generous support of our community is raising money for a P.E.T. Scanner for Health Sciences North. A P.E.T. Scanner is a powerful diagnostic tool used to detect cancer and optimize the management of cancer treatments. In addition, P.E.T. is used in cardiology studies to measure damaged heart tissue and in neurology to identify brain disorders such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Epiliepsy.
Sam Bruno was a resident of Sudbury who passed away from colorectal cancer in 2010. Through his efforts, he advocated to the Ontario Ombusdman to begin funding P.E.T. scans for some patients in Ontario. After this was accomplished, Sam began working on getting a P.E.T. Scanner for Northeastern Ontario. Currently, the closest P.E.T. scan machine is located in Southern Ontario.
We hold an annual Dinner & Fundraising Gala in October, which to date has raised over $800,000.00. The cost of a P.E.T. scanner is approximately $3.5million.
