WARMING HOPE STATION / GO-TIME !
"Warmth for the body, hope for the soul.  Code Blue and beyond"

December 1st is the official launch date for the Warming Hope Station, hosted by PACTION, Vailsburg AG & Grassroots Newark! We will open our doors to our Neighbors With No Address every Sunday through Friday night when the forecast overnight LOW temperature is 32 degrees or below! The "open" hours are 8:00pm through 6:00am with volunteers on duty one hour before and one hour after)

This is an 100% VOLUNTEER, grassroots effort.  We receive no public funding.  The donations of funds and items needed to execute with excellence have been coming in slowly, but we still have a ways to go.

Over the past 4 years, we have moved our operation from pillar to post, in any space that would have us.  Today, we are delighted to have a space at Vailsburg AG that our Neighbors can call HOME!  As with any new home, it must be furnished and equipped for safety, comfort, and in our case, warmth and hope!

PLEASE check out the WISHLIST, and help us get fully prepared. We also need EVERYONE to help spread the word, and to recruit On-Call VOLUNTEERS to help make sure the nights run smoothly, and our Neighbors are served with dignity and love.

For more information or to donate items from the wishlist, please call 862-955-ACT-1 (2281).   Winter is HERE, and temperatures are dropping quickly.  It's now time to jump into ACTION, to protect our Neighbors from potentially fatal and dangerous weather conditions.

THROUGH THE YEARS:
SHARE THE HARVEST RETURNS WITH A DOUBLE PUNCH!!!

We are excited to announce the 2016 re-launch of 2 MAJOR initiatives to extend a hand-UP to our Neighbors With No Address and other vulnerable populations this Winter!

Share The Harvest - Thanksgiving (Part 1)  will eradicate hunger in and around Newark, NJ, if only for a day.  Hundreds of generous volunteers will prepare thousands of hot, homemade, full course meals to be served and/or delivered to our Neighbors, the medically or mentally challenged, elderly, impoverished or ANYONE who may not have the means for a Thanksgiving feast.  Our goal this year is to meet or exceed the 3,541 meals prepared in 2015.

We are delighted to welcome Newark Celebration 350 as a new Partner this year.   NC350 chose US to help commemorate Newark’s rich 350-year history by celebrating the talents of its citizenry (YOU) and its remarkable achievements.  Share The Harvest is just one example of Newark's greatest asset.... its PEOPLE!

Partners in ACTS and the PACTION Newark Consortium take the lead to coordinate this effort to empower other Community advocates & organizations to serve their constituency AT NO CHARGE!  Participating community servants are asked to contribute a little something, according to their ability, to help defray costs.   Our proven theory is that if each one brings a little something to the table (a head of lettuce, a tomato, an onion, a cucumber or crouton), we can ALL share in a chef’s salad fit for Kings & Queens.

Share The Harvest – Winter (Part 2) is an ongoing mission to provide a safe, warm and loving resting place for our Neighbors on freezing cold winter nights.   Started in January of 2014 as Newark’s 1st Grassroots Emergency Overnight Warming Station, a small (but growing) number of volunteers have now teamed up with the phenomenal folk at the Vailsburg Assembly of God to open the Warming Hope Station… “Warmth for the Body and Hope for the soul”.    VAG has completely gutted and renovated an entire spacious floor for the exclusive use by our Neighbors.  Now that we have a permanent place to call home, we will be able to offer more services and resources that will help to change the trajectory of these precious lives for the long haul.  Our plans include ministry, makeovers, recreation and much more.  While we continue to appeal to officials for a comprehensive plan to deal with this plight once and for all, we MUST also continue to do all that we can to protect our Neighbors With No Address from the life-threatening elements, during Code Blue and BEYOND!

As always, both of these missions consist of 100% volunteers with like-minds, compassionate spirits and loving hearts.  We receive no public funding and rely solely on the sacrificial giving of people like YOU!  Dr. ML King, Jr. said “Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve.”   That includes you!  We ask that you search your heart and give, as you are able, of your time, talent or trea$ure.

TIME:  Volunteer a few hours of your time to serve.  You may choose from preparation during Thanksgiving week, serving on Thanksgiving Day, or a night at The Hope Warming Station.  There is something for EVERYONE to do.

TALENT:  Whatever your gift or your passion, you can put it to good use to bless someone else.   Cooking, baking, driving, sewing, singing, shopping, drawing, cleaning, praying…. You name it!

TREA$URE:  If distance, time or other obligations make it difficult for you to serve, please consider giving even a few dollars to help defray the significant cost of these missions.   Rather not give cash?   We get it!   That’s why we’ve have created detailed lists of NEEDS for Thanksgiving, and WISHES for the Warming Hope Station!  You are sure to find an item or 2 in within your budget that will make a tremendous difference in our ability to be a blessing to someone less fortunate than ourselves.

No matter which options you choose, we hope that we can count on you to help us help others.  Our Mission Statement, inspired by the book of Acts 4;32-35 is “All God’s children on one accord, with one heart, helping others who are in need.”   Our tag line is “Partnerships, Action, and Volunteerism & Service”.  Pretty simple, don’t you think?   But one thing that’s far from simple is the overwhelming sense of JOY that comes over you when you know that someone’s life has been made even the least bit better… because of YOU!

MILES TO GO BEFORE WE SLEEP!

On Thanksgiving Day, 2015, Partners in ACTS and the PACTION Newark Consortium, and more than 200 volunteers SHARED THE HARVEST in a miraculous way!  We purchased, prepared and delivered more than 3,541 hot, full course meals throughout the City of Newark and neighboring communities.
What makes this achievement miraculous is that we began the initiative on October 1st with NO money! That's right....$0.00 dollars!
We had a few good people with hearts of compassion. We had a desire to "Share The Harvest" with those less fortunate than ourselves.
And we had an abundance of FAITH!!!!
Thanks to this platform, word of mouth, and the sacrificial giving of members, partners and friends, we put a smile on the faces and food in the mouths of thousands of the elderly, physically & mentally challenged, veterans, medically fragile, financially struggling, our Neighbors With No Address and ANYONE who had a need!
But it doesn't stop there!  The need for love and compassion is prevalent across the world, today, more than ever before.  We don't pretend to be able to heal the world, but its been PROVEN that we can heal our community, one family and one day at a time, by simply WORKING TOGETHER!
At least once a week, we are presented with families who have been displaced by fire, eviction due to lost employment, domestic violence or other circumstances beyond their control.  Every single day, our Partners engage our Neighbors With No Address on the streets. in crippling weather conditions with no food,or place to lay their heads.   Each of us do what we can, sharing what little we have to provide a hot beverage, a hand warmers, warm outerwear, etc..   Apartment owners make "short term" rooms available to families abruptly displaced.  Our "supply" of personal hygiene items is in constant need of replenishment.  The list goes on and on.
Mind you, we are a 100% VOLUNTEER Consortium of like-minded individuals and organizations with NO FUNDING, who have been serving our community for years!  We don't apply for grants or public funding, because we can't afford to have Legislaters and CEO's dictating who we can serve and how.    We take on the "cases" that the hospitals, child & family service agencies, homeless shelters and law enforcement turn away because of "red tape".   When they're budgets are cut or their beds are full, they call US, and we find a way!
This is about our Community taking care of each other, and not waiting for government or others to do it for us. But we NEED YOUR HELP!  Obviously, there is a always a need for financial support.  However, if you are unable to give in dollars, you can give of your time or talent.  Consider purchasing a few packs of socks, hats, gloves, feminine products, handwarmers or any of the MANY things we take for granted.  It will mean the WORLD to someone "living" outside, who doesnt have the items or the means to get them.
In other words, let's continue to SHARE THE HARVEST ALL YEAR LONG!!  In a country known for its waste as well as its wealth.... there is no reason for people among us to starve, deteriorate, or even die from LACK!  Please call us at 973-551-ACTS (2287) to let us know how you will help,

Previous
For the past 6 years, Partners In ACTS and FP Youth Outcry have partnered to "eradicate hunger in and around the City of Newark, if only for one I day". Our SHARE THE HARVEST and BREAKING BREAD Thanksgiving initiatives have provided hot, full course, homemade, nutritious meals to ANY person or family who may not have the means or facilities to purchase or prepare meals for themselves. There is only one criteria, and that is need. We served near,y 2,300 in 2015 alone.
Based on feedback and our experience, we need to do more. This year, we have joined forces with PACTION, a consortium of approximately 30 like-minded organizations to provide even more assistance to even more of the under-served and disenfranchised among us.
Together, our goal is to information on public and private resources that are available to address each situation... Such as health services, energy assistance programs and the like. For the homeless population (that we prefer to call our "Neighbors With No Address"), there will also be hats, gloves, and scarves. Our "Neighbors" will also be invited to our Grassroots Emergency Overnight Warming Stations and other venues for shelter during the inclimate winter weather.
It is important to note that all of these efforts are funded by the sacrificial giving of ordinary people who care! and staffed by 100% volunteer labor. We have received no public or private funding. We do it because we believe "our THANKS is in our GIVING". We hope that you will agree and LEND YOUR HELP!!!
Any monetary donation, no matter how small, will go a long way towards making this winter a little more tolerable for those who have fallen on hard times. Studies have proven time and again that majority of people in urban cities are only a paycheck or 2 away from homelessness. Those statistics don't take into account the number of WORKING poor who may be living without heat or electricity, the ability to pay for medication, warm clothing, etc. There, but for the grace of God, go many of us.
We are also accepting in-kind donations of time, talent, goods, and services to help us meet our goal. On behalf of the people we serve, we hope you will find it in your heart to do SOMETHING. Your kindness is certain to enhance, or even SAVE A LIFE!
Please contact us at 973-551-ACTS (2287) to let us know how you would like to help. Thanking you in advance for your generosity!
