Traveling Ohio With Amateur Radio
Donation protected
I decided to do something big this summer with Amateur Radio. The chance to receive a numbered plaque for activating all Ohio State Parks while giving other Amateurs the chance to get their 'Worked All Ohio State Parks Award' sounded like just the right thing.
I am a disabled Veteran who served in the Army from 1987 to 1994, including a deployment to Kuwait during Desert Shield/Storm. I also wanted to recognize organizations that help Veterans in need. Each park activation will be dedicated to an Ohio Veteran.
We will be keeping a leader board during the event. Each contact with a park per band will be worth 1 point. There will be a multiplier based on number of parks worked. Since the same station call will be used at each park, you will not have to submit logs for scoring. Framed Certificates for the top 4 scoring stations will be awarded. Stations making contact with at least one park can request a special Certificate showing all contacts made with the parks.
All contacts made with parks during this event will count towards the
Worked All Ohio State Parks Award.
We will be transmitting APRS tracking information via W8WDS-4 for the duration of the event.
You can send messages here, but we will only reply if time permits.
During travel between parks, we will be monitoring 146.565 simplex.
We will be running stations on 2m, 80m, 40m, 20m.
If we have additional volunteers, we will also run 10m.
Planned operating times are from 1400-2000 EST each day (except the days when we have 2 parks scheduled and the day we will be operating from the island state parks). Setup is planned to start at 12:30 each day.
At this time, SSB and FM are the only modes planned.
New Dates July 6 2017 to Sept 8 2017.
More detailed information is available at http://ohiostateparks.gaterunner.com/
The main goal of this summer-long event is to recognize Ohio State Parks, Amateur Radio Enthusiasts, and Veterans. As an added bonus, this event gives 'Hams' from around the world a chance to contact each Ohio State Park.
After finallizing the plan for this event the cost estimate became overwelming. So I started this Go-Fund-Me Campaign is to help defray the cost of traveling to and setting up at all the parks. And donations will be accepted up to July 30th 2017 Any proceeds not used for the event expenses will benefit a Veterans Charity. If we reach the goal and there are no unforeseen exspense 3000.00 should be left after the event.
Thank you for your support. Will
