Help build a Buddhist monastery
Donation protected
I'm raising money to help Geshe Lama Ahbay Tulku Rinpoche build a labrang - a small Tibetan Buddhist monastery - in Mundgod, in southern India. Once finished, the monastery will host living quarters, a medical clinic, library, and a meditation hall for 25 young monks from India, Nepal, and other countries. He now has 6 monk students who share a home with him in South India.
This monastery is very special because of who Geshe Lama Ahbay Tulku Rinpoche is. When he was nine years old, he was initiated into monkhood by the tutor of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Khabche Ling Rinpoche. When Ahbay Rinpoche was twelve, His Holiness the Dalai Lama identified him as the reincarnation of the hermit Lama Lobsang Tenzin, who lived in a cave and was famous for his supernatural powers. Lama Lobsang Tenzin Rinpoche was known for his bravery and courage. When the Chinese invaded Tibet, he refused to leave and remained to continue the education of his monk students. Now, Ahbay Rinpoche is continuing this important work by building a monastery, again to benefit more monk students. Geshe Lama Ahbay Tulku Rinpoche was born in Darjeeling, India in 1973. He was enthroned as Tulku in Gaden Jangtse Monastery.
Tibetan Buddhist monasteries are organized in a way similar to the college system at Oxford and Cambridge - several smaller monasteries make up a larger monastic university. Geshe Lama Ahbay Rinpoche's labrang project will be part of the Gaden Jangtse monastery.
Geshe Lama Ahbay Rinpoche already has a plot of land at Gaden Jangtse and architectural plans for the building, and he needs to raise $150,000 for the construction project. Please help make this project possible for the benefit of many monks!
