What is Airplay?
Airplay is an event hosted by the Society of Professional Journalists to discuss ethical failings in reporting the GamerGate controversy in particular, and the journalistic challenges of digital controversies in general.
Why are we fundraising?
The SPJ is not the wealthiest of non-profits, and cannot cover the cost of every speaker. This fundraiser in conjunction with SPJ funds will be able to cover travel and accomodation expenses.
Why fund Cathy?
Cathy Young is a journalistic powerhouse. She's a contributing editor to Reason Magazine, and a regular columnist for Newsday, TIME, and the Daily Beast. Her exclusive coverage of Paul Nungesser and the "mattress girl" case was one of the most impactful pieces of the year.
She has also been a close observer of gamergate, publishing several sympathetic articles on the movement for Reason Magazine, and another for SpliceToday.
