Help Sarah Make History at Daytona
*Hi there!*
I'm glad you found my page, I'm Sarah Cornett-Ching, and I guarantee I’m like no one you've ever met. I am an ambitious young race car driver from British Columbia, Canada, but that’s not all that sets me apart.
A dozen years ago my dad was the only racer in the pits with a 10-year-old girl as his pit crew. Racing has been my dream and my passion as long as I can remember. I can’t take too much credit for his success though, I only helped dad for a couple of years before the shoe was on the other foot. He let me behind the wheel when I was just 12 years old, and I was hooked from the start. Every decision I've made in these last 10 years has moved me closer in some small way to my dream of racing professionally.
I take my racing seriously, and I am a proven winner on the track. I also have a lot of fun. I developed BBAG (Beat By A Girl) Racing because people would always joke about being beat by a girl, now it’s quite popular within my racing series and I am seeking help to take BBAG Racing to the next level.
Giving back has also always been a priority of mine; I have always loved to use my racing to support causes that are close to my heart. My favorite memory is without a doubt my visit to the BC Children's Hospital in 2011. We let the kids sign and draw on the hood that I raced on my charity weekend. I will never forget the excitement in the room that day, just to take their minds off of what they were going through for a few hours was an unforgettable experience.
In 2011 I had the opportunity to race in the Nascar Canadian Tire Series representing A&W’s Cruise for a Cure in the 300-lap Vernon, BC, event. It was a thrill to race with Canada’s best talent, and I was poised for a top-10 finish until a blown tire with just 10 laps left led to a 14th place finish. My hopes were high to get another opportunity in the series, but the funding never materialized.
I put my head down and focused on making money as a certified welder and waited for the right opportunity. My mentor and friend Tony Blanchard from Race 101 in North Carolina gave me my next big break. He let me test his stock car at Daytona International Speedway last December. There wasn't enough time to secure funds to compete in February, but I've had a year to prepare. Racing is prohibitively expensive, and the test alone is thousands of dollars.
In the last year I have worked in rural Saskatchewan and Northern British Columbia welding. I fly into work sites for weeks at a time doing nothing but working, saving, and hoping. I have funded my test for this year and a portion of the cost to run the race myself, but I need more help to make my dream a reality.
I'm turning to my friends, family, and anyone who wants to see the boys get Beat by a Girl at Daytona. Please help me fund this!
Always follow your dreams
