Iraqi and Syrian Refugees Need Us

The Refugee Crisis is Over.
Or is it?

Last year, we were all struck by the image of a young boy who washed up on a Greek shoreline last year. He was one of thousands of refugees who died trying to escape a brutal war.

When I saw that image, I knew I had to do something.

So I went to Jordan, and there I met with 100's of Syrian and Iraqi refugees, listening to their stories. I began to retell them and they were shared around the world, helping tell the world about their plight.  (Read some of them here )

And many of you gave, helping provide necessary supplies that made a difference in their survival.

The good news is that many of these refugees have since been relocated to safe homes. Others are still stuck.

But the crisis isn't over.

Ongoing battles in Syria by competing factions have only oppressed the civilians even more. And hundreds of thousands have left, jettisoning their lives, trading them for uncertainty.

And the continued battle in Iraq with ISIS have also pushed out civilians, including many Christians. Many of them have had to flee under the threat of death.

I'm going back to Jordan.

There, I'll meet with several hundred displaced Iraqis and Syrians, who all find themselves in the same place in life. They are looking for hope. I know they will be eager to tell their story -- and the world needs to hear them.

The world needs clarity. The headlines don't always tell the truth, and when politics enters the situation, it becomes even more muddled.  I can put a face to the situation and help bring clarity.

How can you help
I've been in your shoes, watching someone go away and secretely wishing to help.

I honestly don't want to ask for help, after all there is my pride. This American individualism promotes the "go-at-it-alone" mentality, but that short-circuits the love and concern of friends and family.

It would be my joy to bring the love and concern of Americans to these people. I want to make a significant monetary contribution and directly help these refugees.

From my last trip, I know the needs are many. Since these people are displaced, they are facing monetary pressures brought on by costs associated with housing, heat, medical and food needs.

Last year, many of you helped provide bedding, mattresses, heaters and blankets to more than 100 refugees.

I'll be working with Team Expansion, which has individuals directly working with refugees since 2004. You can read about them here.

Your love, support and prayers are treasured. If you can't give, please don't feel any pressure. I treasure your encouragement, so feel free to write me here.
