Social Injustice Solo Exhibition

My name is Rickie Andersson Jr. I'm an artist constructing a Installation piece for Artprize 2015. This artwork is focused on Social Injustice by government social programs. It titled "Shattered Dreams of Forgotten America". I am passionate about this topic because of my own personal experiences and seen first hand on how government temporary help turns into lengthy reliance on these government programs, hindering the road to self-sufficiency. Relying on Governments social programs to taking care of people cradle to grave takes away real empowerment of the people and hinders an individual responsibility and subtracts true freedom in pursuit of the American Dream. This destroys society, punishing success, placing "need" over ability, and this puts people into poverty because of hidden technicality that people were unaware when seeking help originally.
The installation will consist video, sculpture forms and interactive viewer participation. The video captures graffiti messages voicing mistreatment by government failed programs. The sculpture forms is a visual depiction of ideas and dreams of people that were shattered by self reliance from these programs. The viewer interaction gives people a chance to relate with the artist or share their own personal experiences. The costs for this installation is $750 to cover materials. Materials needed are video projector, audio and video cables,spotlights and extension cords, tools and plywood to construct pedestals for the sculpture forms to be placed for Artprize 2015.
In conclusion I believe people should be informed about social injustice and its dependence on government social programs. It is my vision to reach people with this installation and to promote awareness and restore the forgotten people vision of the American Dream.
