Ryster Family Fund

Donation protected
Monday morning, December 8th, 30 year old Shawn Ryster of Hahira, GA lost his life in a tragic automobile accident on I75 in Valdosta during his morning commute.  Many have asked for an avenue to contribute to the Ryster family during their time of loss.  This page was created and is maintained by Shawn's sister, Nickie, in order to help Shawn's wife, Valona, and his daughters, Niva and Aiyana retain as much normalcy as possible while they navigate the next stages of their lives.  All funds raised here go directly to Valona to support her family's needs.

Shawn was born in Palatka, FL on April 24, 1984.  He graduated from Palatka High School in 2002.  Shawn started his life with Valona shortly after and fathered two daughters, Niva and Aiyana, in 2007.  In 2009, his young family moved to Tallahassee for Shawn to attend Florida State University.  Upon receiving his bachelor's degree and a masters' degree in Electrical Engineering from FSU, he began his search for the perfect job, eventually accepting his beloved position as a Project Manager with Packaging Corporation of America in 2013.  Shawn was passionate about his family, his career, and his Seminoles.  He rarely missed an opportunity to gather with loved ones (especially at a tailgate), to lend a helping hand, or to make his peers jump using his notoriously boney rib-poking finger.

As a dedicated Seminole fan and Booster, Shawn and his family could always be found at Doak Campbell Stadium cheering on the 'Noles.  He was a jokester whose silly antics brought smiles to many faces.  Shawn also enjoyed traveling and visiting the beach.  He will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

Shawn is survived by his two 7 year old daughters, Niva Nicole & Aiyana Leigh Ryster and wife, Valona Marcum Ryster, all of Hahira, GA; parents, Doc Ryster of Palatka, FL and Donna (Jim) Rainey of Havana, FL; sister, Nickie (Lucas) Ryster Stricker and nephew Roman Stricker, of Tallahassee, FL; brother, Jimmy (Julianne) Rainey, Jr. of New York, NY; and grandparents, Ronald & Shirley Cason and Margaret Gregory, all of Palatka, FL. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Harold & Mary Ryster and grandfather, Dan Masters.

A visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 12, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Culley's Meadowwood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Rd in Tallahassee where his family has asked that attendees sport FSU attire to honor Shawn's memory.  Garnet & Gold in the Governor's Square Mall of Tallahassee is offering a 15% discount on regular priced apparel with coupon code RYSTER.

A Celebration of Shawn's life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 at 11:00 am, also at Culley's Meadowwood Funeral Home, with committal services to follow at Culley's Meadowwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing funds to the Ryster family to help support them financially during this trying time.

Also, Valona asks that you consider bringing to the services or emailing any photos you may have of Shawn throughout his life so that she can create memory books for their daughters.  Thank you.
