Hello All,
My name is Tenisha Berry.
I am the first born, of two, to a single mother who has done it all. As cliche as it may sound, it is true, my mother is truly the best mother out there.
I was the first person in my family to attend and graduate a 4 year institution with a Bachelor's Degree by the grace of God. I had big dreams of graduating, moving out and having a stable salaried paycheck in a great government organization-- one where I would be able to support myself, as well as my mother. Too bad the economy and job market had other plans for me.
Despite going to a 4 year institution, I was unable to do an internship because I had to utilize any free time that I had to work to pay rent for my apartment. Who knew that if you didnt have an internship, you wouldn't even be considered for a majority of jobs nowadays (a lot of jobs want 5 years prior experience before even giving you an interview). My mother has worked too hard, and prayed even harder, just so that I could make it through university --working two jobs, in a 6 day work week, for as long as I can remember. We have taken out countless loans in pursuit of what is to be called the American Dream: Go to college, Get a Degree, Get a Job.
Ive done all but 1 of the three steps. To go to school and come out working for an hourly paycheck that barely amounts to the Goal amount set for this page is beyond disappointing. In all of this though, I choose not to quit. God has brought me too far, to just leave me here. I made a promise to my mother that we would be better off financially, if I made it through school. And that is a promise that I intend to keep.
I plan to take one more course in Human Services at a local community college which will broaden my skill set and give me a little more of an edge in the job market. However, money is tight and I won't be able to save the amount for tuition in time for classes to start January 12, 2015.
Now, Im not saying that my story is any different from any other college graduate in this country. We are all going through the same trials and trying to make it in this system. But I am taking a step out on faith here, and that's what this page is for. I was told that total strangers would help out, in anyway they can, if at all possible. I was also told that 'God helps those who help themselves.'
So I said to myself, "Why not give it a try?"
