I have overcome many challenges and obstacles, which have shaped who I am.
It means so much that you all believe in me. I know that I will make you very proud of what I can achieve.
I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in graphic design.
I attended school on a full academic scholarship. I completed my degree within four years and I graduated cum laude in December 2011 with a 3.74 cumulative GPA, which I was only one of two people in my program to do so. I did all of this as a single parent to a child with chronic medical, behavioral and developmental issues (suspected Autism or Asperger's).
Immediately after undergrad, I was accepted to a very prestigious graduate school, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, on two scholarships. It is a program that focuses on architecture. I postponed going to grad school since I could not afford it.
I have also survived years of domestic and dating violence. I have persevered, pulled myself together and worked extremely hard. I have achieved and overcome so much.
I have been accepted to my "dream school"- Southern California Institute of Architecture. I hope to attend SCI-Arc summer 2016 in Los Angeles, California. I plan to earn my Master of Architecture degree.
Oprah Winfrey once said, "The greatest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams." That is exactly what I hope to do.
Thank you again for your support.
It means more than you know.
