More then just a sore leg
This spring as a family we put together a summer bucket list filled with tons of outdoor activities like camping, swimming, road trip adventures, drive in-movies, and everything else that a 5, 9, and 11 year old would love to do. We are an active family and we love to be on the move. With excitement and anticipation we began planning, and saving towards our goal.
In June, my oldest daughter Myranda (11yrs) mentioned her leg being sore. I figured it was just growing pains as she is entering into the tween years. However, after she came home from camp it was obvious her sore leg was more serious. After a week of tests we received conformation it was cancer, the same type of cancer that Terry Fox had. Myranda started Chemo immediately at BC children’s hospital.
As a single father I am now balancing in the tension of caring for a sick kid in one city and keeping a normal life for her younger brother and sister in another.
Our family has a new bucket list this summer. Survive! Survive the chemo, the treatment, and ultimately beat the cancer. We want to survive the emotional and mental challenges of a divided house as all the kids are very close and miss each other very much. I am grateful for the family and friends that are helping us but I now need to call on the good will of strangers to join us in fulfilling our new bucket list.
