Please help us manifest our dreams of creating an Eden in our own backyard, and to extend our offerings to our community!
For years we have wanted to own a home where we can raise livestock and grow food in an organic, natural way. We believe that integrating family, community, and food can change the world (even if only our own little piece of it... for now). Well, we finally got our property, but it definitely needs some work!
We received some rabbits to start our Rabbitry, and they came with hutches, but the hutches were pretty old and make-shift. So is their pasture area. And our chicken coop. Aaaaaand.......
We are concerned about how long the hutches and the coop will hold up, and to be honest - seeing as how we're raising rabbits for human consumption - we need to build proper, quality housing for them.
We have been gathering scraps of materials from here, there, and everywhere to do what we can to make this happen, and for the time being it is working (sort of...), but we know that in the near future some of the shelters and pasture areas are going to need a lot of work.
We also need to create a sanitary, properly-equipped space for processing and packaging. This means proper ventilation, storage, freezer system, vacuum seal packaging system, washing area, etc. Once this has been set up we would really like to get certified by MOFGA (Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association).
We need lumber and other materials for better hutches, coops, pens, and fences; quality knives and stainless steel surfaces for butchering; modifications to the land to drain our wet clay soil (which is seriously always wet or damp), which will allow for a larger pasture area, as well as the space to put in a garden big enough to produce food for ourselves as well as our community.
Our vision is for a largely self-sufficient homestead flourishing with life in all forms. We see ourselves having Farm To Table dinners at our home for the community where we can serve meat from our pasture-raised rabbits and chickens, and organic fruits and veggies right from our own blossoming bushes, trees, and gardens.
We also see ourselves crafting the rabbit pelts into beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces that we will sell at festivals, farmers' markets, and at our own home-based shop (which is another part of our big manifestation).
We value your support in any way you can offer it, and whether it's 5 cents or $5,000 (wouldn't that be incredibly amazing????), it will all go into growing our vision. We are eternally grateful and would like to show our appreciation by offering each person who donates a gift! For anyone local (or for anyone who would like to make the journey) we would be honored to have you attend our Farm to Table dinner that will hopefully happen during Autumn 2014 (it would be our first of many to come!). For non-local donators we would like to send you a beautiful pelt from one of our rabbits. And for those who donate a large amount, we will also gift a hand-made craft using our rabbit pelts (and any other natural materials we happen to be inspired by).
Thank you in advance for just taking the time to read our story. Be well!
Peace and blessings,
Ryan, Lindsay, Maya & Sophia
