The DKMS Sessions: Willow May with Al Murray

Tax deductible
Last year, my six-year old nephew Finley was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of childhood leukaemia. He urgently needed a blood stem cell transplant to survive.

I teamed up with DKMS, the blood cancer charity, and we launched a campaign to find Finlay’s ‘genetic twin’ – a perfect stranger, whose genetic profile was identical to Finley’s. The proverbial ‘needle in a haystack’ who could give him a second chance at life.

You signed up in your tens of thousands . And each one of you legends now sit on the UK’s aligned blood stem cell registry - each a potential lifesaver-in-waiting for someone with blood cancer or a blood disorder, in need of a transplant.

And Finley was one of them. He found his match, and whilst he is not out of the woods just yet, he is still here - and this is all thanks to his anonymous blood stem cell hero. We can’t thank this beautiful human being enough for doing something so selfless for someone they’ve never met.

If you haven't already, please sign up as a potential blood stem cell donor  with DKMS. You could save a life.

But all this costs the charity money. It’s  £40 to register just one person, so we have been taking opportunities to raise much needed funds for DKMS to help continue their lifesaving work.

And this time, I’m taking a backseat, and handing over to my daughter.

THE DKMS SESSIONS: WILLOW MAY WITH AL MURRAY

Singing since she was six, Willow May could sing you the phone book – but she’d rather not. Instead, Willow May offers a set of songs written and recorded during lockdown.

Willow May’s killer tunes switch styles effortlessly; from big city swagger one moment to supernatural melodrama the next via rebadged modern standards. A storyteller at heart, each track a character, every song a soliloquy; Willow May loves Amy, Adele and Ella.

Willow May is joined by her band; Al Murray on drums and programming and Bruce Hazelton on sax and everything else.

This show is in aid of DKMS. We hope that while you enjoy the tunes, you do what you can for people with blood cancer and donate whatever you can spare to DKMS so they can continue their incredible lifesaving work.  Thank you.

We’ll be streaming live on YouTube  & Facebook , in exchange for a donation to DKMS.

We’re hoping to raise £7,000 for the charity, which will pay for 175 people to register as potential blood stem cell donors. Every penny counts!
