Donation protected
Philadelphia based storyteller, Denise Valentine, has been invited by The National Association of Black Storytellers, Inc. to perform at PANAFEST and participate in the Inter-Continental Scholarly Exchange on The Preservation of the African Oral Tradition through Black Storytelling, December 3 – 12, 2015 in Ghana, West Africa. PANAFEST will take place in the cities of Accra, Cape Coast and Elmina.

Denise Valentine believes that stories are like roots that connect us to the past and wings that carry us into the future.

Denise joined Keepers of the Culture, Inc. (KOTC) In 1997. Since then, she has delighted audiences at hundreds of performances and workshops for schools, libraries, museums, and community events.

Performance Highlights:
·         Traveled to South Africa in 2004, with a delegation from the National Storytelling Network (NSN), under the auspices of People to People Ambassador Programs and with support from The Leeway Foundation of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she studied folklore traditions and the influence of politics on contemporary oral stories.

·         In a project funded by the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage, she collaborated with historian Phillip Seitz and William Goldsby, chair of Reconstruction Inc., to provide storytelling workshops to a cohort of ex-offenders.

·      Together with an international contingent of storytellers, Denise Valentine was a featured presenter at Ananse SoundSplash 2014 Storytelling Conference and Festival, November 19 -24th, 2014, hosted by Ntukuma, The Storytelling Foundation of Jamaica, W.I.

·      In 2015, Denise was  a featured performer at Pete Seeger's Clearwater Great River Festival in New York, and appeared in Mysteries at the Monument, Season 3, Episode 12 on the Travel Channel.

·      Currently, Denise is on the roster of The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Arts in Education Directory for Southeast Pennsylvania; the Pennsylvania Humanities Council’s Commonwealth Speakers Bureau, and Art Sanctuary (ARTStac) Teaching Artists.

I look forward to participating in PANAFEST in this, the "Decade of the People of African Descent,"
and to mastering the art of storytelling as a tool for cultural literacy, peace-building and conflict resolution.
