Guatemala Medical Service Trip

When I was 19 years old, I had the incredible opportunity to spend 2 years in Argentina as a missionary for my church. While there I was able to make a special connection with the Latino people by directly interacting with and serving the people there. Now, as a medical student, I am striving to maintain that special connection that I made as a 19 year-old by involving myself with the Latin Medical Student Association (LMSA) here on campus.
The goal of LMSA is to bridge the gap between the Medical Community and the Latino Community. With the ever-increasing numbers of Spanish speakers in the United States, this bridge is becoming more and more important. This is why we, as an LMSA group, have decided to organize a medical service trip to Guatemala through the international organization IVHQ. They will place us with a host family during our stay and will place us in underserved clinics and communities where we can provide invaluable service to the local people there. This trip will not only give us the opportunity to serve the people of Guatemala, but it will also help us as medical students put into practice the clinical skills we have been learning in school by working directly with the local physicians in performing physical examinations, giving medical interviews, and helping educate the local people about overall health and well-being.
Most importantly, by interacting directly with the people of Guatemala and fully immersing myself in their culture, I hope to make a special connection with the people of Guatemala just as I did as a 19 year old missionary with the people of Argentina.
Thank you very much for your help in making this possible.
