AfroDiva Summer Dance Intensive

Hi! My name is Benedicta and I am the founder of the AfroDiva Summer Dance Intensive. I am currently a third year pharmacy student at Purdue University with a minor in dance. I have trained in various styles of dance from a young age including ballet, jazz, hip hop and modern dance. I have served as the executive director for hip hop teams such as Dance 2XS, Inc., the Purdue University chapter. I currently serve as the co-founder of AfroRoyale Dance Troupe, the first and ONLY afrobeat dance troupe on the campus of Purdue University and the coordinator/lead choreographer of the young adult praise dance ministry at Second Baptist Church in West Lafayette, Indiana. As you can see, dance has always been a big part of my life and in efforts to share my love for dance with others, I started the AfroDiva Summer Dance Intensive in 2018.

Towards the end of this summer I will be hosting my annual AfroDiva Summer Dance Intensive. This dance intensive serves young girls in the Indianapolis area who love dance or just want to learn something new and have fun. The intensive includes two weeks of training rehearsals, primarily focused on modern afrobeat and urban movement. Training will include implementing foundational movement, team building, enhancing skills such as execution, retention, timing and performance quality, to conclude with a finale performance at the end of the two weeks.

As someone who has been dancing majority of her life, there have been many camps and trainings that I would have loved to partake in but couldn’t simply because I couldn’t afford them. I host this camp FREE of charge to give everyone an opportunity and with your help, I will be able to continue to do so. Donations will cover the various expenses of the camp to include things like studio reservation, transportation, costume, equipment and other miscellaneous expenses.
