Brooke's Haiti Internship
Donation protected
Hi Everyone! Thank you for all of your support so far :) please see below for trip updates...
Family and Friends,
As many of you know, I have gone back to school to pursue my bachelor’s in nursing at Denver School of Nursing. I joined Global Health Perspectives (GHP) to enhance my learning and understanding of local and global health issues. As part of being a member we attend meetings that focus on global health issues such as poverty, access to clean water, hurdles non-profits have in helping these communities, and also volunteering in the community. I have volunteered with many organizations: Mean Street Ministry, Denver Rescue Mission, Ronald McDonald House, and helped set up and organize a silent auction for Africaid, where we raised money for young African girls to go to school.
As a member of GHP I had a chance to apply for an internship to Haiti in September, 2014. This is a very competitive process and only 4 students out of more than 30 were chosen to go, myself being one! And now I have a wonderful opportunity to travel to Haiti for an internship focusing on pediatrics and community health, putting to use the nursing skills and knowledge I have gained through the last 11 months. As part of the internship we are required to acquire skills in fundraising in order to cover the cost, as well as any extra raised going towards the non-profit organizations that we will be working with to support our efforts in Haiti. We will be partnering with Love Takes Root located on the Southern shore in Jacmel and (www.lovetakesroot.org) and Pwoje Espwa (www.freethekids.org) in Les Cayes, which is about 75 miles West of Jacmel. My fellow students and I will assist Dr. Wilkerson & his wife Barb in community needs assessment as well as assist in a Pediatric and a Birthing Centers.
I am so excited and honored to be one of four students to go on this service learning internship to Haiti. All funds raised will go for flights, housing, and medical outreach supplies. No money will go towards salaries. My goal is to raise $2000 by July 30, 2014.
Please help me in my endeavor in pursing this once in a lifetime opportunity!
To donate, please send a check made out to me, or donate online here (http://gofundme.com/ai9ojk)
