Known academically as one of the premier public charter school systems in the Bay Area, American Indian Public High School (AIPHS), under its parent organization American Indian Model Schools (AIMS), created its first athletics program and joined the Bay Area Charter School Athletic Conference (BACSAC), in the CIF – Oakland Section, in 2017. In its inaugural sports season, AIPHS Golden Eagles fielded six sports: Cross Country, Boys and Girls Soccer, Boys and Girls Volleyball, and Swimming.
In our first year of sports, our Boys and Girls Cross Country teams won JV championships, and Lady Eagles Volleyball team finished third place overall, which included a BACSAC playoff appearance. Currently, the AIPHS Girl Soccer team has qualified for the playoffs, thanks in large to its defense and league leading scorer, AIPHS Senior, Paola Barron, whom in April 2018, was recognized by MaxPreps and the United Soccer Coaches association for being the athlete of the week in Girls Soccer for the State of California. Additionally, our S.E.A. Eagles Swim and Boys Volleyball Teams are proving to be formidable as they compete against traditional Oakland public high schools in the OAL.
Although AIMS athletic programs allow our students the opportunity to engage in friendly competition among some of the most athletically gifted students in the entire Bay Area, our students must maintain a 3.0 GPA when participating in sports, in order to ensure that they are athletically, as well as academically talented.
Why We Need Funds? As a means to provide equity and encourage sports participation among our scholar athletes, AIPHS sports are 100% publicly funded at no cost to our students and we hope to be able to do so in the future. However, due to the initial costs associated with fielding 6 first-year teams, AIMS will need the financial support from donors like you to help sustain our athletic programs at current levels.
