Dog Rescue - Hawaii (Aloha Ilio Rescue)

I am a resident of Hilo, Hawaii and I have been rescuing dogs on the Big Island of Hawaii for many years. Here is our website. www.alohailiorescue.com .  In 2009, after a cancer scare, i decided to ramp up my single handed rescue efforts and grow the one thing i loved with a passion (other than my children), and help our islands dogs.  This is how it all started.  I dragged in my friends, Kerry Willocks (now Treasurer of AIR), Donna Pacheco (Vice President of AIR), and Bonnie (Secretary of AIR).  Between the four of us, this has grown tremendously. 

 We now are a 501c3 as of 2016!!!    We still  take dogs from people who are moving or can't keep their dogs and we find them homes. We also try to relieve the local shelter of their bursting at the seams numbers due to people not fixing their animals.We have these dogs sometimes for a short period, sometimes for many months, we have to feed them, give them their vaccinations, give them monthly heartworm medicine, and any other veterinary bills that are necessary to their health and welfare. We currently have 40 something foster families that we work with.   We believe foster families teach the dogs love, boundaries, potty training, obedience training, etc., and they are not just warehoused in kennels. All dogs are spayed and neutered prior to adoption, microchipped and liensed (hihs helps with that!)  We feel that we make a positive difference to the community thru education in our schools, on FB and face to face in the community,  and we help many people who cannot afford to spay/neuter or keep their dogs, have an option other than the shelter for their pet. Our local shelter is overrun with dogs.   We hope to bring relief to the shelter and with spay/neuter, bring the euthanasia rates down. Please help us fund this project here in Hawaii.
