Harry's Transition Fund

My name is Harry Saxon and I’m a freelance illustrator from Greece that moved to the UK the February of 2013. I am a female to male transgender and I am trying to transition. Transitioning makes a trans person’s life easier by relieving gender dysphoria. It’s extremely hard having to live with gender dysphoria, I’ve been struggling with it for years. It makes everything in a trans person’s life more difficult, especially if they’re suffering from depression and anxiety, like I do. It makes everyday tasks impossible, working, going outside; even things one wouldn’t think about, like showering. I understand transitioning will not fix my life, but it will make me happier and more confident in my body and this way I’ll be able to focus on fixing my other problems. It’s different for every person, but usually transitioning includes taking testosterone and having a mastectomy, things I intend to do.

Because I am still adjusting to living and working in the UK, my situation is difficult. Freelancers can’t be sure about having work all the time. I have to chase projects all the time and it’s a challenging process since not many people know me in the UK yet so I can feel secure financially. I can support myself a bit, I am paying for my doctor’s appointments and travel, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to afford to take my testosterone every month and I certainly can’t pay for a mastectomy at the moment. It is crucial, however to take my medicine and undergo surgery, because this condition is very challenging for my mental health and has a major impact on my everyday life (and has been affecting me for years).

The cost of a bilateral mastectomy is around £6000 and I calculate the cost of testosterone injections at around £50 per month. That makes it £6600 for a year of testosterone injections and mastectomy. Because of GoFundMe’s costs and money transferring costs, I’ll set the goal for £8000, because there is no way to calculate how much donation money will be lost.
