Please help, Nemo, get the surgery she needs!!!!!!

At the end of shift, on June 19, 2019, Sgt. Lee Henning with the Union Pacific Railroad Police witnessed a man remove items from his trunk and throw them into the canal.  After taking a closer look through his binoculars, Sgt. Henning realized that the items were puppies. Sgt. Henning drove closer, as he approached the man got back into his car and drove off. Sgt. Henning made the decision to rescue the puppies instead of pursuing the suspect. Although two of the puppies got out of the canal and disappeared, he was able to rescue three from the water. Since it was after hours for all the animal shelter's in the area, Sgt. Henning decided he would take the pups home for the night and figure out where to take them in the morning.

On his way home he stopped by the local Tractor Supply Store for some puppy food, where he met me, Rhonda Voda. I am a former humane society volunteer and engaged in small talk where Sgt. Henning explained his story. I offered to foster the pups and find a home for them once they were old enough to be spayed/neutered. While Sgt. Henning and I went out to get the puppies from under the seats, where they were scared and hiding, Manager Mike and fellow employee Tim at Tractor Supply, started to pull some items off the shelf such as a crate, dog food, dog bowl to get these guys safely in the back and some food in there tummies.

Once I got the puppies home and examined them further, I noticed these pups were in pretty bad shape. They had giant worm filled bellies, malnourished, very dull coats, and covered in fleas and ticks. I also noticed the largest of the puppies, who we now call "River" had very labored breathing and he was not eating. The little girl, who we now call "Nemo" had a large scar on her front leg and it looked to be recovering from a bad break. The next morning, I went into Tehachapi Vet pleading there case hoping they could help and since this was on my own dime, also hoping they would help with the cost. Well they have!!!!!!!!!!!! Dr. Anderson and the staff have helped indeed. Dr. Anderson estimates these pups to only be about 7-8 weeks old as of June 20 2019.

Diagnosis:
"River" was diagnosed with Pneumonia from taking in water from the canal. He is currently on anti-biotics and responding well.

"Baby Shark"-seems to be the healthiest thus far

"Nemo" according to the x-rays, there is an old fracture in the growth plate of her little leg. She is walking on it but seems to be in pain. She tries so hard to keep up with her brothers, but I usually end up picking her up as we take our walks around the farm. Dr. Anderson is requesting the leg be amputated when she gets a bit older.

The puppies will likely have another round of antibiotics in a few weeks when they are a bit healthier due to the flea infestation.

The male puppies will be available for adoption once they are healthy, micro-chipped, receive their shots and neutered. Nemo, however, will not be available for adoption until her leg is completely healed.
