Barbers Blessing Birmingham

Hi my name is Angel Cartagena also know as Angel the Barber or IcutBham. I am a barber in downtown Birmingham. I am a part of a group call the Birmingham Barber Coalition, the group was created by local barbers for the purpose to create fellowship with other barbers, getting to know each other better, and sharing knowledge of our craft. Through talking with each other on get together, Facebook groups, and other hair/barber shows we realized we all had something in common, and that was our passion for giving back to our community. we had all given back to our community with in our own individual barbershops. weather it was free haircuts for honor role students, backpacks for back to school, free haircuts for back to school, feeding the homeless in the barbershop and many other things. We had never done anything collectively and it was time to step it up. On November 20th 2017 a group of 7 barbers decided that we were going to go to Lynn park in Birmingham Alabama and give free haircuts to the less fortunate. All we would ask from them in return was to spread the word that we were going to be there all day. unlike most other group that go for a hour or two we were determine to be there all day and make sure we touch as many life as possible. We got there at 7 am to set up and get started. We had people come out from all different parts of the city: Druid Hills, Fountain Heights, Northwood, and different shelters throughout the city. I know we provided more than a haircut for the people we served that day. Many of them shared their stories with us and told us that most people tend to marginalized them. They were extremely happy that they were getting a cut since many of them hadn't had a cut in months. But the thing I heard the most that day, aside from thank you for the haircut was thank you for hearing me out and talking to me. That was the moment that made me understand what we were doing that day was changing lives. We finished our day around 5:30 pm that afternoon. after the day was over we talked about the day and realized that we are filling a void that we have in our community and we want to make sure we keep doing it. We have already decided to do this event once a month and have had numerous barbers reach out to join us next time. We have our equipment such as clippers, shears, and razors, but we need some more equipment to make sure we can continue doing this more efficiently. And that is were we need your help we need to get styling chairs/stools, mobile stations/tables, 100ft extension cords, power bricks, power strips, generator, neck strips, barbcide solution, disinfectant spray, blade wash, etc. about half of the money we are asking for is because we would love to be able to get a van where we can store this equipment together and is always available at the time that is needed. We would love to grow this and take it to neighboring cities where we know is also needed. We are asking for anybody that can to donate to help us get to our $10,000 goal to do so, but we also want everybody to share this in their social media so it can reach as many people as possible.
